Hot take: Shonen Jump just couldn't handle the awesomeness that is Attack on Titan.
Quite simply, Attack on Titan was too gory and intense for Shonen Jump's generally more uplifting and heroic vibe.
I read somewhere that Shonen Jump thought it was too dark and graphic for their target audience. Their loss, our gain!
