The original Hunter x Hunter anime ended because it caught up to the manga, leading to a lack of source material to continue. They didn't want to fill the gap with endless fillers like some other shows!

Production decided to end the original Hunter x Hunter due to the hiatuses in the manga's release schedule. Better to pause than to bore us with filler, amirite?

Simple answer: the anime caught up to the manga too quickly, so they had to stop. Bummer, but at least we got the reboot!

The original Hunter x Hunter ended because the manga wasn't far enough ahead, causing production to halt. The reboot gave it a second chance to shine!
