Short answer: Epic Games tried to bypass the App Store's payment system and Apple said 'Nope!'.
Epic Games decided to add their own payment method to avoid Apple's 30% fee. Apple didn't like that and booted Fortnite off their store.
Epic Games and Apple had a huge fallout over in-app purchases, and it ended with Fortnite getting axed from the App Store. Same for Google Play, by the way!
Epic tried to cut Apple out of their V-Bucks revenue by introducing direct payments. Apple kicked Fortnite off the App Store in retaliation. Drama!
