Pretty sure the 105/25 M43 Leoncello got booted because of balancing issues. It was OP and ruining the game for everyone!

They probably took it out because of technical issues with the tank model. Lots of bugs were reported when it was still in the game.

If I recall correctly, the developers mentioned it was part of a rebalancing update to make the game more fair. It's a shame, though. I miss that tank!

From what I remember, they removed it for being historically inaccurate. Gaijin's really big on keeping things historically authentic.
