SAO gets a lot of flak because of Kirito being an overpowered character and the series relying too heavily on harem tropes.
I personally love SAO, but some folks find the pacing uneven, with some arcs dragging on while others feel rushed.
A lot of the hate comes from high expectations. People were hyped and then felt let down by the plot development and character depth.
Honestly, people just love to hate on popular things. SAO's no different!
