The scars are a result of the petrification process. When people are revived, the scars show where the stone cracked during the revival process.

The scars in Dr. Stone are actually remnants of the petrification event! They appear where the stone cracked when they were revived.

I have a friend who loves Dr. Stone and they told me the scars come from the cracks in the stone when people are revived. So basically, it's all about the stone cracking during the revival process.

Because the plot demands it! Seriously though, it's a side effect of being turned to stone and then being revived.

It's from the stone cracking when they are de-petrified. Think of it like a stone tattoo, but less cool.
