Why Does GeoGuessr Not Always Update the Map in Challenge?
GeoGuessr doesn’t always update the map in challenges because it's based on the version of Google Maps that it uses at the time the challenge was created. Old challenges use old maps.

I’ve noticed the same thing! It’s because GeoGuessr uses the map from when the challenge was first made. So if it's an older challenge, you get older maps.
GeoGuessr freezes the map for challenges to ensure fairness among players participating in the same challenge.
They don't update the map in challenges to keep the playing field level for everyone participating in that particular challenge.
