Mitsuki wants to figure out his own identity and make his own decisions. It's kinda like a teenager wanting to 'find themselves' but with more ninja drama.
He never REALLY betrays him. Mitsuki's just following his instincts and searching for his own meaning in life. Self-discovery can look like betrayal sometimes.
