Double-check that you've entered the correct Friend Code. One little typo, and your friend might as well be in another dimension!
Make sure you're both connected to the internet. No Wi-Fi, no friends!
Personal experience here: I had this issue and it turned out I hadn't given the game permission to access my contacts. Fixed that and boom, friend appeared!
Honestly, sometimes you just need to restart the app or your device. Classic IT solution, but it works!
