The delay of Attack on Titan Season 2 mainly happened because the anime wanted to wait for the manga to get ahead in the story. They didn't want to catch up too fast and run out of material to adapt.

Simple answer: They needed more source material to give us the epicness we deserve! So, it was worth the wait.
It was delayed because the creators needed more time to perfect it, and trust me, it shows!
From what I remember, the production team wanted the manga to be more advanced before continuing the anime. It's all about quality over rushing it.
