Fortnite isn't on Steam because Epic Games prefers to distribute it through their own Epic Games Store. Keeps all the V-Bucks in their pocket!

Honestly, it's all about money. Epic wants to keep all the revenue without giving a cut to Steam.

Epic Games has its own launcher and store, so they probably don't want to share revenue with Steam. More V-Bucks for them!
