Gauche is obsessed with his sister Marie because she’s his only family, and he feels an intense need to protect her after their parents died. Sibling love can be a bit... intense, especially in anime!

Gauche's sister complex is a classic anime trope. Overprotective older brother, nothing new here.

As someone who's watched every episode of Black Clover, I can say that Gauche's over-the-top devotion to Marie is played for laughs and to highlight his softer side. Tough exterior, soft heart!

Gauche's obsession with Marie stems from the hardship they faced growing up as orphans. He became overly protective and developed an extreme attachment. It's a bit much, but it’s all in the name of brotherly love.
