Why is Grand Theft Auto rated M?
Grand Theft Auto is rated M because it's like the big cheese of mature content in video games. It's packed with crime, violence, drugs, language, and some pretty graphic scenes that are definitely not for kiddos. Think of it as the video game equivalent of that R-rated movie your parents wouldn't let you watch when you were 12.

Hot take: GTA's M rating is just a badge of honor at this point. It's what makes it appealing. Who plays GTA for educational content anyway?
It's M for Mature because you're basically living a life of crime in the game. Stealing cars, running from cops, and getting into all sorts of trouble. Plus, there's a lot of stuff in there that's pretty adult-themed, so yeah, not exactly a game you'd play at a family game night.
