Edmund McMillen, one of the developers, was inspired by his own upbringing and religious background. The game reflects many of his personal experiences and interpretations of religious stories.

Let's be real: it's dark because it makes squashing all those monsters way more satisfying. If it were all sunshine and rainbows, it wouldn't hit the same.

It's all about the story! The Binding of Isaac dives into themes of sacrifice, fear, and survival, which naturally create a darker atmosphere. Plus, with all those creepy bosses and eerie music, it's hard not to feel the chill!

From my experience, the dark tone actually adds to the challenge and makes the game more engaging. Nothing like a moody atmosphere to keep you on your toes!
