Nintendo named the game 'The Legend of Zelda' because the princess, Zelda, is central to the series' lore, even though you play as Link. It just sounds more mystical than calling it 'The Adventures of Link'!

The game is called 'The Legend of Zelda' because the story revolves around the legend of Princess Zelda, who Link often saves from various evil forces. It's her legacy that drives the plot of many games.

Hot take: It's called 'The Legend of Zelda' because 'The Adventures of Link' doesn't have the same ring to it.

Fun fact: Shigeru Miyamoto, the game's creator, named Princess Zelda after Zelda Fitzgerald, wife of author F. Scott Fitzgerald. He thought the name sounded exotic and fitting for a fantasy game.
