It's called 'The Legend of Zelda' because, in the original game, Link embarks on a quest to rescue Princess Zelda. Even though Link is the main character, the legend is all about Zelda's importance to Hyrule.

From what I've read, the creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, wanted the title to reflect the epic fantasy and mystery. Zelda is central to the lore, so it made sense!

The series is named 'The Legend of Zelda' because the game's storyline revolves around Princess Zelda and the legends surrounding her kingdom. Link might do the heavy lifting, but Zelda's the one with all the lore and magic!

Easy answer: 'The Legend of Link' just doesn't have the same ring to it. Zelda's got that legendary mystique, and she's the heart of the story.
