Fullmetal Alchemist ended because the story reached its natural conclusion. Both the original series and Brotherhood had definite endings that wrapped up the Elric brothers' journey nicely.
I've watched Fullmetal Alchemist multiple times, and honestly, it ends perfectly. Extending it further might ruin the beautiful narrative they built.
Hot take: There's no new Fullmetal Alchemist because milking it further would damage its legacy.
