Oh man, Xbox Live being down is the worst! Usually, it's either maintenance or a temporary outage. They usually fix it pretty quickly, so hang tight! :)

It's down because Microsoft likes to keep us on our toes. Seriously, though, it could be anything from updates to server overload.
