Why won't Steam open?

Honestly, it's probably just updating in the background. Steam does that. Give it a minute, or like, make a sandwich. By the time you're done, it might just be ready to go.
Could be your antivirus messing with it. Try disabling that temporarily and see if Steam opens. Just don't forget to turn it back on!
Another quick fix is to check if Steam is already running in the background. Open your Task Manager, look for any Steam processes, and end them. Then try launching Steam again.
