Champion in Apex? Basically, it's the top squad. Before your match, you'll see the 'Champion Squad' - those folks did great last game. If you outlive all other squads, congrats, you're the new Champion. So, yeah, it's a status thing.

In Apex Legends, the 'Champion' refers to two things. Before the match starts, the Champion Squad is featured; these are players who won their last match or performed exceptionally well. During gameplay, becoming the 'Champion' means your squad survived and won the match against all others. It's all about last team standing!
