How big does a house have to be in Terraria?

In Terraria, a house for your NPC to spawn or live in needs to be at least 60 total tiles, but no bigger than 750 total tiles. That means the interior space has to be at least 30 blocks wide and 10 blocks high, including walls, floors, and ceilings. Remember you also need a door, a table, a chair, and a light source. It's like a tiny apartment for your digital friends!

Just make it big enough to fit a bed, a crafting table, and some chests. You don't need a mansion. I mean, you're not hosting digital dinner parties, are you?

Honestly, size isn't everything in Terraria. I crammed everything into a 5x12 space for my first NPC and it worked like a charm. Just follow the basics: door, table, chair, and a light source, and you're golden.
