Yep, just make a private lobby and send the room code to the person you're looking for. Works like a charm!
You can't really search for players directly. Just drop the code (like XJ5S4) to your buddies and you're good to go.
Unfortunately, there's no in-game search feature. You'll need to coordinate outside the game via Discord or other messaging apps.
