To smelt black metal in Valheim, you'll need to use a blast furnace. First, you need to defeat Moder, the fourth boss, to get the Dragon Tears required to craft the artisan table. Then, you can build the blast furnace and feed it coal along with your black metal scrap to get those shiny black metal bars!
