In my experience, breaking a throw requires anticipating your opponent and pressing 1, 2, or both (1+2) when they grab. Master it in the practice mode!
Just hit the appropriate button (1 for left punch, 2 for right punch, or 1+2 for both) when the throw comes your way.
Breaking throws? Just mash buttons and hope for the best! Haha, just kidding, but timing is everything.
