Start by building a structure with enough headroom for your chimney. Use wood beams and flooring for stability, then overlay 45° or 26° roof thatch pieces to create the chimney stack. Leave gaps so the smoke can vent out, otherwise you'll have more smoke than a Viking sauna session!

I always start with a basic fire pit inside my house and build the walls around it with an open space above. Then, I use wood walls to guide the smoke out and cap it off with an overhang so rain doesn't douse my fire. Trust me, breathing is better when smoke's not in your face.

My trick: build a 2x2 pit with a half-wall base, then place the fire inside it. Stack up some core wood like logs around it, and make sure to leave a smoke escape path. It works and looks cool!

A basic chimney? Just leave a hole in your roof. Done.
