Just find a natural inlet and build some simple docks with wood beams. Don't overthink it; Vikings kept it practical!
Start by flattening the shore with the hoe. Then, use wood beams and poles to build a sturdy dock. Add a workbench and some chests for storage!
I've built a harbor by first leveling the ground, then creating a pier using core wood beams. Once I had the basic structure, I added some stone walls to protect it from waves and enemies.
