Actually, through the power of mods, you can change your character's name. There are a few mods out there that let you tweak all sorts of things in the game, including your name. Just be sure to always back up your save files before you start modding, in case anything goes haywire.

Unfortunately, you're stuck with your character's name once you've set it in Stardew Valley. There's no option in-game to change it, so choose wisely at the start!
You can't change your character's name through the game's normal settings or options menu. BUT, if you're not afraid of a little file tweaking, you can edit your saved game file to change it. Find your save game file in the Stardew Valley folder, open it with a text editor, and search for your character's name. Be careful, though, back up your save file first in case something goes wrong!
