Build a chimney! Just make sure there's an exit for the smoke above your roof. I usually leave a block or two open at the top.

Honestly, I just make an open-air fire pit outside my house. Keeps my Viking lungs happy and my sleeping quarters smoke-free!

Put a thatched roof a few tiles above your fire. It'll let the smoke out while keeping the rain from dousing your fire.
