You can't stick tackle on that starter Bamboo Pole, mate. Gotta upgrade to a Fiberglass Rod at least. Then just click the tackle and slap it onto the rod in your inventory. Easy peasy.

To equip fishing tackle in Stardew Valley, you first need to upgrade your fishing rod to either the Iridium Rod or the Fiberglass Rod, as the basic Bamboo Pole won't support tackle. Once you've got the right rod, open your inventory, right-click (or tap, if you're on mobile) on the tackle, and then click or tap on the rod. Voila! You're all set to catch some fish with your newly equipped tackle.

Fun fact: tried equipping tackle without upgrading my rod first. Doesn't work. So, make sure you've got a Fiberglass or Iridium Rod. Then, attaching tackle is just a click away in your inventory.
