Actually, there's no traditional shovel in Stardew Valley. If you're looking to dig or till the soil, you use the Hoe that you start with. It does all the digging you need, from preparing ground for planting to uncovering artifacts and finding items in the dirt. So, no shovel, but your trusty Hoe has got you covered!
