First, get yourself some Black Metal and Fine Wood. You'll also need Linen Thread, which you can make from Flax at a Spinning Wheel (crafted with a workbench, iron nails, and some more!). Once you have all the materials, head to your Forge and craft that bad boy up!

From experience: Plains aren't for the faint-hearted. But those goblin-like Fulings drop the Black Metal Scrap you need. Smelting + Spinning Wheel = Black Metal Sword.

TL;DR: Smelt Black Metal Scraps, spin Flax into Linen Thread, combine at the Forge with some Fine Wood. Enjoy your new sword!

You gotta beat Fulings to get Black Metal Scrap, smelt that into Black Metal Bars. Then farm Flax from the Plains biome (but watch out for those Deathsquitos!). Finally, use a Spinning Wheel to make Linen Thread. Forge time!
