Just keep playing and participating in all events; eventually, you鈥檒l snag a historic general. I got mine during a battlefield event!
Historic generals can be recruited through the Tavern using gold, but it鈥檚 a bit like a lottery鈥攜ou never know if you鈥檒l get a legendary one or not.
Honestly, if you have the patience, just save up your resources and try your luck at the Tavern. It might take a while, though.
