Getting to a level 6 forge means upgrading it with all the goodies. You'll need Anvils, a Forge Cooler, Toolrack, Bellows, a Grinding Wheel, and a Smith's Anvil.

From my own experience, unlocking the level 6 forge was all about prioritizing the grind for those specific upgrade items. Took some effort, but totally worth it once you see what you can craft!
