Honestly, just make sure you have enough Gold to repair the Bus Stop and for the bus fare. The desert has some of the best stuff in Stardew Valley, so it's totally worth it. I spent days mining there and got crazy good loot.
Just buy a ticket from Pam (the bus driver) for 500G, lol. But make sure you鈥檝e fixed the bus with the Community Center bundles first!

If you're thinking about how to get to the desert, why bother? It's just a bunch of sand. Spend your Gold on something better in town.
