To feed your chickens hay in Stardew Valley, first, make sure you have some hay either by cutting grass with your scythe or buying it from Marnie's Ranch. Then, go inside your chicken coop and interact with the feeding bench, which is the long, empty trough near the chickens. Simply click on it with hay in your inventory to place the hay there for your chickens to eat!
You actually don't always need to. If you let your chickens outside (make sure you open the coop door) and there's grass, they'll eat that instead. Saves hay for winter!
