You just gotta get the Rusty Key from Gunther. It's like he's the gatekeeper to all that is slimy and mysterious. Donating 60 artifacts to the museum is the price of admission!
TBH, just focus on donating to the museum. The Rusty Key will come, and then the sewer is yours. Simple as that, no biggie.
Ever since I got that Rusty Key and headed into the sewer, the game changed for me. Found some really neat stuff down there and it's worth the effort!
Honestly, sewer exploration is kinda overrated. Just plant some more parsnips or something.
