Get a hoe for tilling the ground and plant some seeds (carrots, turnips). Once they're grown, you can pick them right up. Farming like a true Viking!
Honestly, all you need is the right tool for the job (axe for wood, pickaxe for minerals), then click away and watch your stash grow.
For berries and mushrooms, just walk up to them and press E. Scavenging is your best friend here.
Use the cultivator for crops and pickaxe or axe for everything else. Simple as that!
