To make iron in Stardew Valley, you gotta mine for it. Head over to the Mines once they open up a few days into the game. You're looking for Iron Ore here, which starts popping up around floors 40-79. Once you've snagged some Iron Ore, throw it into a Furnace with some coal to smelt an Iron Bar. Boom, you've got iron!

Just buy it. Seriously, if mining's not your jam or you're in a rush, Clint the blacksmith sells Iron Ore. It's a bit pricey, but hey, time is money, and it saves you from battling cave monsters.

Iron in SDV isn't something you 'make' like a craft project. You mine it, then smelt it. Dive into the Mines after you hit level 40, grab all the Iron Ore you can carry, and then use your Furnace to smelt the Ore into Iron Bars. Coal required, patience too.
