You can use your phone's NFC. Just add your PayPal account to Google Pay or Apple Pay and tap it at the terminal.
I use PayPal at stores by linking it to my Google Pay. Works like a charm every time!
Some stores take PayPal codes. Ask the cashier if they accept PayPal, then have them scan the QR code in your app.
