Make sure you've got plenty of stone and a good bit of room to place the hearth. It's a little bigger than it looks in the menu!
Just click the hammer, navigate to the hearth in the crafting menu, then click where you want it. Simple as that.
Hearth placement tip: having a chimney or good ventilation is crucial. You don't wanna smoke yourself out!
