Oh, it's pretty simple! You don't put hay in the silo yourself in Stardew Valley. Instead, when you use the scythe to cut grass on your farm (make sure you've got a Silo built), the hay automatically gets transported into your Silo. Then you can just grab it from your coop or barn's hay hopper to feed your animals.

A lot of folks miss this - but make sure you鈥檝e actually got a silo built first! I spent my first spring wondering why my hay count was always at zero. Once you have a silo, any grass you cut on your farm gets magically turned into hay and stored there. Super handy for winter or rainy days when your animals can鈥檛 graze outside.

just cut the grass lol

No need to manually do anything. The game does it for you when you cut grass with a silo on your property. It's like magic but with more farming involved.
