Just sleep in-game, saves right after. To exit, Home button then X. Simple.
To save your game in Stardew Valley on the Switch, you just need to end the in-game day. Go to your farmhouse, interact with your bed, and choose to go to sleep. The game saves automatically when you start the next day. To exit, simply press the Home button on your Switch to pause the game, then close the game from the Switch's Home menu.
Honestly, don't sweat about exiting w/o saving. Game does it for you after each day. Sleep in your farm bed, wake up, and your adventure's saved. To leave, hit Home, then close it out. More time for farming, less for fussing!
