To save Travis, make sure Laura doesn't kill him in the final showdown and don't shoot him when you get the chance. Keep everyone else alive to make it easier.

In my playthrough, not shooting Travis was key. Also, maintain a good relationship between Laura and him throughout the game. It's all about the choices!
