Honestly, setting up multiplayer in Stardew Valley felt like a breeze when I did it. Just had my buddy join my game through Steam after I placed a cabin for him. Super straightforward.
Getting Stardew Valley multiplayer going is easier than finding a prismatic shard! First off, one of you needs to own a cabin for each additional player (up to 3). Host your game from the Co-op menu, choose 'Host New Farm' (you can also convert an existing single-player game by building cabins at Robin's shop for your friends). Make sure your pals join through the 'Join' tab by either entering your game code or selecting your game from their friends list if you're steam buddies. That's it! You're ready to farm together.
IMO, Stardew Valley's multiplayer setup is a bit old-school but in a charming way. Just make sure you've got cabins for everyone. Easy peasy.
