You can't see their profile picture. That's a major hint you're blocked.
You'll know you've been blocked if you can't see their 'Last Online' status and all your messages get left with a red exclamation mark.
Trust me, as someone who got blocked by a friend once—when they block you, you can't react to their messages in shared servers either. Learned the hard way!
