To upgrade your pickaxe in Stardew Valley, just head over to Clint's Blacksmith shop. Make sure you got enough bars (Copper -> Steel -> Gold -> Iridium) for the upgrade level you want, and some Gold coins to pay for the service. Clint will take your pickaxe for a couple of days, so plan your mining trips accordingly!
Just chuck it to Clint with some metal bars and gold. Presto, upgraded pickaxe! Just remember, timing is everything since you'll be without it for a bit.
Pro tip: Always upgrade your pickaxe during winter. Less need for it, and you won't miss it as much while Clint works his magic.
