You need to defeat the game's bosses first. Then, activate their powers by offering their trophies at the sacrificial stones. Press F to use the power!

I grabbed my first power by slaying Eikthyr. Ran back to the sacrificial stones, hung the trophy, and got that sweet stamina boost. F key for the win!
