Season 2 of Blue Exorcist, called the Kyoto Saga, picks up right after the Kyoto Impure King arc in the manga. Basically, it takes place sometime around episodes 16 and 17 of season 1, ignoring the anime-original ending!

They ignore the last few episodes of season 1 and dive into the Kyoto Impure King arc from the manga. So, it's like a retcon!

Season 2 starts after episode 17 of Season 1. They pretend the rest didn't happen.

Just finished binging it! Season 2 dives straight into the Kyoto Impure King arc, skipping the filler stuff from the end of season 1. Perfect for manga purists!
