I usually sidestep when I'm about to get cornered or when the opponent's using a lot of forward-moving attacks. It creates openings for your combos!
Sidestep when you see your opponent going for a linear attack. Most characters have predictable moves that you can dodge this way!
From experience, sidestep when you feel a Rage Art coming. Dodging that can change the tide of the match!
Sidestepping is overrated. Just block and punish; it's simpler and works great.
