Where do I put the rainbow shell in Stardew Valley?
You gotta take that rainbow shell to the box at the train platform. Once you chuck it in there, it’ll unlock part of the secret 'Mr. Qi's quest'. The game doesn’t outright tell you to do this, so it's like a secret handshake with the game developers!

Just sell it, honestly. The amount of effort for the Qi quests ain't worth the trouble.
The Rainbow Shell has a special purpose! In the summer, take it to the box in the hidden area at the back of the bus stop. This kicks off the mysterious Qi quest. Good luck, farmer!
